Combining Jordan and Israel is a popular option for a first-time Middle East visit. They are home to holy Jerusalem, mysterious Petra, Mars-like Wadi Rum, and the magical Dead Sea.
Bordering each other, they share similar desert and Mediterranean climates. The best times to visit Jordan and Israel are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when you can expect cool days with many sunny hours.

Best Weather Times for Jordan and Israel
Jordan and Israel experience relatively dry conditions throughout the year with the highest monthly amounts of rainfall coming in Tel Aviv in January being just a moderate 15 cm (6 in). The dry months, April to October, see 3 cm (1 inch) per month or less across both countries.
As a result, the best time to visit Jordan and Israel is mainly affected by the temperature. Therefore, cooler spring and autumn are the best times to visit Jordan and Israel, perfectly avoiding the hot summer and cool/mild and damp/showery winter.
Average daily high temperatures are from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F) in spring and autumn when you could wander around the ancient ruins and enjoy some outdoor fun in ideal conditions.
Although there is the best weather, you would have to prepare for higher costs and bigger crowds. An early booking of 6 months in advance would usually gain early bird discounts and maximize the availability of hotels/flights.

Best Times for a Family Trip to Jordan and Israel

If you and your family have a flexible schedule, spring and autumn are undoubtedly the best times to start your family trip.
But if you're traveling with school-age kids, your schedule may be limited. With shorter distances to Jordan and Israel, European families are advised to visit them during the spring (Easter) break for the most comfortable weather.
But for those requiring long-haul flights, such as American and Australian families, school vacations in winter are recommended when compared with the hot summer. Being the shoulder season, you could experience the festive season and enjoy less-crowded attractions in a cost-effective way.
However, this is not the case around Christmas and New Year. Being the holiday season, you'd better prepare for the highest costs and largest crowds. Booking your tour half a year in advance is key to securing a higher availability of family rooms and getting early bird benefits.
If summer is the only time you have, then June is the best summer month to visit Jordan and Israel. Compared with July and August, June is a little cooler with average daily high temperatures from 28 to 38 °C (82 to 100°F).
A private tour with us would make your summer family trip more comfortable: enjoy a private air-conditioned car, cold drinks that are always available, and flexible itineraries that make the best of the weather.

The Worst and Cheapest Times to Visit Jordan and Israel
If you don't cope well with the heat, summer could be the worst time to visit Jordan and Israel. During the summer, the average temperature is over 32°C (90°F) inland or over 24°C (75°F) on the mountains/coast. August is the hottest summer month.
If you prefer dry and warm weather, then try avoiding winter (December to February). You would probably encounter some snowy and rainy days. January is the coolest months, with daily high temperatures of around 12 to 21°C (54 to 69°F).
These worst times bring lower prices (about 30–50% off) and fewer crowds in Jordan and Israel. Winter (December to February) is the cheapest time to go, followed by summer. Christmas and New Year holidays are the exceptions.

Fantastic Southeast Asia Trip
![]() We had an excellent time in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand on our trip organized by Asia Highlights. Without their excellent guides and itinerary we would not have been able to experience everything we had in less than 2 weeks. All of the guides and drivers were incredibly helpful and considerate of our needs. Thank you Borin (Cambodia), Mui (Bangkok), Lee (Bangkok), Tip (Pattaya), Abe and other staff for coordinating an awesome vacation for us!! More

January Weather in Jordan and Israel
- Northern Jordan and Israel (Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Amman, Jerash): averaging 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F), moderate rainfall with occasional snow in the mountains
- Southern Jordan and Israel (Aqaba, Eilat, Petra, Wadi Rum): averaging 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), very low to no rainfall
If you would prefer a tranquil time to visit both Jordan and Israel, January is the best time for you.
Although it is the coolest and wettest month, your trip won't be affected too much by the weather. This is because the daily high temperatures are still mild, averaging 15°C (59°F), and though you would encounter an average of over 1 in 3 rainy days in the north there is hardly any rain in the south.
You would have some attractions (almost) to yourself and enjoy the lowest prices in January, excluding the New Year holiday. If you want to experience the atmospheric festivals, you'd better prepare for high costs and big crowds. Walk-ins are rarely possible during the holiday season.
