Located at the junction of Asia and Europe, Turkey's four weather seasons can be classified as three travel seasons by their popularity, as detailed below.

1. High Season: the Best Time for Beaches

  • From June to August (the hot summer season)

June to August is the hottest time of the year and is considered to be the best time for beaches in Turkey, with average temperatures ranging from 25 to 35°C (77 to 95°F) in the coastal areas, and temperatures that could exceed 40°C (104°F) in inland areas.

Many families with children take this long vacation opportunity to admire the magnificent architecture and the captivating landscape as well as enjoy quality family time at the beach.

If you are planning to travel with school-age children for a summer vacation, June is recommended over July and August because temperatures and crowds don't reach their peak until July.

2. Shoulder Seasons: the Best Times for Weather and Temperatures

  • From April to May and September to October (the pleasant spring and autumn seasons)

For most activities apart from beach-related ones, the months from April to May and September to October would be your best times to visit Turkey.

With the best weather of the year including warm temperatures, it would be comfortable to visit anywhere you want in Turkey, including but not limited to Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul, underground cities in Cappadocia, and the vast sea of forests at Ayder Plateau in the Black Sea highlands.

With fewer crowds and lower prices than in the high season, you could enjoy a better travel experience for the same amount of money. For your planning inspirations, check out: How to Plan a Trip to Turkey>>>

3. Low Season: the Best Time for Cheapest Costs and Avoiding Crowds

  • From November to March (winter season with rain/snow)

Slightly worse than Turkey's cool November and March, December to February is considered the worst time for you to travel to Turkey because of the chilly weather.

However, winter is the best time to experience a traditional Turkish bath, also called a hammam. Dating back centuries and deeply rooted in Turkish culture, a Turkish spa can provide insight into Turkish history from the architecture to the rituals.

What's more, the cold weather results in fewer crowds and shorter queues at popular attractions compared to other seasons. November and March would be your best choices in winter since they have comparably more comfortable weather than other winter times, but are still within the promoted period of low-season fares.

Travel with a private guided tour to benefit from professional advice and a well-thought-through itinerary. That way, you could enjoy a wonderful trip to Turkey even in the winter season.

Turkey in January and February: Enjoy a Traditional Turkish Spa with Scented Candles

January and February are cold months to visit Turkey with temperatures averaging 10°C (50°F) in the coastal areas, such as Bodrum and Antalya. Inland areas, such as Cappadocia and Konya, could experience freezing temperatures as they average about 2°C (36°F).

While the world is transformed into a silvery wonderland, you could indulge in a foam bath and oil massage in the comfort of a cozy interior, soothing your body and soul amid the warm foam and soft candlelight.

For skiing and outdoor enthusiasts, Kayseri can be a great ski resort for you and your family. After you and your loved ones engage in snowboarding or learn from scratch, you could conveniently purchase a steaming cup of Turkish coffee from a nearby café and admire the scenery.
